POETRY  ·  CELEBRATIONS  ·  MOTHERHOOD

A poem for every kind of mother — those who birth, those who choose, those who wait, and those who love without a word.

A note from Ink & Ideas: Motherhood does not arrive in one form. It comes in a hundred quiet shapes — in hands that hold, hearts that wait, and love that never asks for recognition. This Mother’s Day, we are honoured to share a poem that refuses to leave anyone out.

A Poem for Every Mother

There is a kind of love that does not announce itself. It wakes up early and stays up late. It holds hands through hospital corridors and through bedtime stories. It comes from grandmothers and aunts, from women who adopted, from women who are still waiting, and from women who carry the quiet weight of loss and still choose to love.

This poem was written for all of them. Not just for the mothers the world most easily sees — but for every woman who has ever given a piece of herself to make someone else feel at home in this world.

A quiet morning — for every mother who gives before the world wakes up.

Wishing a Happy Mother’s Day

Wishing a Happy Mother’s Day,
To all who care in their own way.
To moms with little hands to hold,
And those whose dreams are brave and bold.

To working moms who give their all,
And answer every need and call.
To single moms who stand so tall,
With quiet strength through rise and fall.

To moms by birth, and moms by heart,
Adoptive moms who play their part—
Who chose to love, to guide, to stay,
And build a bond in their own way.

To fur-baby moms with paws and fur,
Who cuddle close through days that blur
With wagging tails or gentle purrs —

To the women waiting, hearts full of grace,
Hoping, praying, for that special embrace.
Your love is endless, your patience strong,
Your journey will find you where you belong.

To grandmas, aunts, and those who share
A mother’s love with deepest care.
To foster moms and friends who give
The kind of love that helps kids live.

To those who’ve lost yet still hold tight,
Your love shines on, a steady light.
To every kind of mom out there,
With open hearts and love to spare—

Three generations, one love — because motherhood is passed down, chosen, and shared.

A Reflection

Motherhood is not a title. It is a practice. It is the small, repeated choosing of someone else’s comfort, joy, and safety — sometimes at great personal cost, and always with great personal love.

If you are reading this and you see yourself somewhere in these lines — you are seen. You are celebrated. This day belongs to you.

“To every kind of mom out there, with open hearts and love to spare — this day is yours, you light the way.”

Share this poem with the mothers in your life — the ones nearby, the ones far away, the ones you carry in your heart.
